A New Year is that rare time when we search for what makes life meaningful, easier, and productive. We sense a deep longing - and if we take the time to listen to that voice of desire, we are guided to find a Truer Purpose.
Stress increases the more we move against our True Purpose.
Having a True Purpose drives us to change from the inside out rather than being pushed to change from that which is outside of us.
Skip New Year Resolutions – resolve one New Day at a time.
In this practice, you will be guided to find your True Purpose and drive change one resolution, one action, one day at a time.

1. PODCAST: Find Your True Purpose
(~14 minutes, format: .mp3)
- Hard to hear your “Voice of Desire”?
Use this podcast whenever stress appears as frustration or confusion.
- Write on a card your longing(s) – aka “True Purpose”
Put this in a place you will see it. (Computer, refrigerator, car etc…)
- Write a NEW DAY RESOLUTON:
One action - one simple step* – you will take in the next 24 hours to support the Purpose(s) you found.
* Remember that doing nothing may be the action for that day.
3. CHALLENGE: A New Day Action
- Each day – perhaps during your yoga practice or before you fall asleep - reflect on your True Purpose(s) and the one New Day action.
- Notice & Accept what you discovered by doing – or not doing - the one step for that day.
- Write down One New Day Action or step for the next day.
4. A poem: ‘For Longing’ by John O’Donohue
Blessed be the longing that brought you here
And quickens your soul with wonder.
May you have the courage to listen to the voice of desire.
That disturbs you when you have settled for something safe.
May you have the wisdom to enter generously into your own unease
To discover the new direction your longing wants you to take.
May the forms of your belonging-in love, creativity, and friendship -
Be equal to the grandeur and the call of your soul.
May the one you long for long for you.
May your dreams gradually reveal the destination of your desire.
May a secret Providence guide your thought and nurture your feeling.
May your mind inhabit your life with the sureness
with which your body inhabits the world.
May your heart never be haunted by the ghost - structures of old damage.
May you come to accept your longing as divine urgency.
May you know the urgency with which God longs for you.
